Need to create awareness about Insurance Ombudsman’s role

Former Telangana Special Chief Secretary BP Acharya urges policyholders to seek its help for insurance disputes

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Centre of Office of Insurance Ombudsman on Wednesday organised ‘Bima Lokpal Day,’ in Hyderabad. The programme was held to create awareness about the Office of Insurance Ombudsman, which deals with policyholders grievances relating to insurance claim dispute.

In his keynote address, Chief Guest of the event, B P Acharya, former Special Chief Secretary, Government of Telangana, emphasised that the need of the hour is “awareness” about the options available to the policyholders for approaching Insurance Ombudsman in matters relating to insurance disputes and rejection by insurers.

The Chairperson of Insurance Ombudsman Advisory Committee of IRDAI, Acharya complimented Insurance Ombudsmen performance across the country in serving prompt and timely resolution of the grievances filed by the complainants.

Debasish Panda, Chairman, IRDAI stressed on substantial responsibility to ensure fair and equitable treatment to all policyholders. L K Shamsunder, Zonal Manager, LIC of India, South Central Zone, Hyderabad shared his experience about the Grievance Redressal mechanism and the commitment of the Organisation for speedy and effective redressal of customer grievance.

N Sankaran, Insurance Ombudsman, Hyderabad Centre, in his inaugural address briefed the participants about the grievance redressal mechanism of Insurance Ombudsman and its effectiveness in resolving complaints. He highlighted the performance of Hyderabad Centre during the year 2022-23, and current year’s performance up to October 2023.
